What is it about the spring that inspires a creative awakening? As our ideas and desires take shape in the season's light, we have invited two Santa Barbara luminaries into ARM Studio to share their distinctive approaches to remembrance and release - two guided journeys through kinetic storytelling that will leave you feeling physically radiant and mentally refreshed. 
Please note each workshop is capped at 8, and there is absolutely no experience necessary to participate, simply bring an open heart and a sense of humor. Your workshop fee includes a harvest lunch and refreshments. Visiting the farmers' market beforehand? You are welcome to bring your haul into the cool studio and out of the sun. Participants registering for both sessions will receive a bundle rate of $200.

Write From the Body
Saturday, April 26 10am-1:30pm

Developed and lead by psychotherapist Elizabeth Schwyzer, Write From the Body offers participants an unforgettable afternoon exploring the intersection of body and mind. In this workshop, physical and somatic exercises are interwoven with stimulating and personal writing prompts. In a small and intimate group, we build a safe environment and support each other as we share our discoveries. Write From the Body workshops are for anyone who is curious, open, and can commit to the group process; identifying as a writer or a dancer is not necessary. Please bring a notebook and pen and wear comfortable clothing for movement.

​Santa Barbara native Elizabeth Schwyzer Smith is a writer, mover, and therapist. She holds degrees in Dance and Dramatic Art, Creative Writing, and Clinical Psychology, and has worked as a professional dancer, celebrated journalist, and editor for Palo Alto Weekly. In her writing workshops, she blends the influences of contemporary dance performance and physical theater with writing prompts, inviting participants to explore the intersection between their bodies and their life stories, while building trust and community.

Unlocking the Body Through Symbol

Adrienne De Guevara invites us into the world of embodied cognition—where the body becomes both interpreter and messenger of symbolic meaning. Through a curated sequence of minimalist symbols called SomaGlyphs, participants are guided through playful exercises to rekindle intuitive movements that express emotion, archetypal energy, and shared cultural narratives. By engaging with these symbols, we tap into the body's innate ability to know before it understands. Movement becomes a form of language—revealing the unconscious, bridging the personal and the collective, and offering new ways to communicate beyond words. Somewhere between dance and make-believe, this guided gathering offers to deepen creative practice through the language of the body. This experience invites artists and movers to explore the deep connection between symbol, sensation, and story. Please wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing for ease of movement. 

Adrienne De Guevara is a Santa Barbara sculptor, performer, and social practice artist. She is the co-founder of Brooklyn-based theater and film company Crux Productions; vaudeville comedy duet Mister Sister, and electronic-kirtan band Shakti Pops. Currently, De Guevara serves as the Programs and Fund Development Manager for the Santa Barbara Arts Collaborative.

Set against a backdrop of historic Santa Barbara adobes and the Santa Ynez mountains, ARM Studio is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara overlooking the De La Guerra Plaza. Featuring 1920's spanish architecture, floor to ceiling arched windows, shock absorbant Chilewich flooring and high ceilings, the climate-controlled studio is available to rent for workshops, exhibitions, performances, and private gatherings. More than a magazine, our vision to bring intimate stories to life is unveiled through a series of community events and live programming in the grand tradition of the art salon. Our stunning downtown studio overlooks the historic De La Guerra Plaza, bathed in natural light with 1920's architecture.

Located at 8 E. De La Guerra St., each month a series of workshops, exhibits, performances, and art salons will be featured.
